How to complete a Google Tasks task from Apple Watch

“How do I complete a Google Tasks task from Apple Watch?” is a common follow-up once you already know Google never shipped a Tasks app for watchOS. You want the grocery item gone while your phone stays in your pocket, not a second trip to unlock iPhone.

Short answer

You cannot complete a Google Tasks item from Apple Watch using Google’s own Tasks app, because Google does not offer a Tasks app for watchOS. Raising your wrist will not show a Tasks list, and there is no official complication or Watch glance that marks a task done in your Google account.

On iPhone, completion is straightforward: open the list and tap the circle. That same check-off does not exist on the Watch unless you install a native Google Tasks client that includes a Watch app. Without that, the realistic options are unlocking your iPhone, or finishing the task later when you are back at a screen.

Why stock Google Tasks stops at the phone

Google Tasks is designed as a thin checklist that stays close to Gmail and Google Calendar. The iPhone app covers titles, notes, due dates, subtasks, and completion. Watch support was never part of that surface.

People often try workarounds that sound plausible and fail in practice:

  • Waiting for a due-time notification on the Watch, then hoping “Complete” appears as a rich action that writes back to Google Tasks. Stock Tasks due pushes are ordinary iPhone notifications. They are not a Watch task manager.
  • Duplicating the same errands into Apple Reminders so you can check them off on the Watch. You now maintain two lists, and Gmail or Calendar still show the Google copy as open.
  • Asking Siri to “mark my Google task done.” Siri reminder commands land in Apple Reminders, not in Google Tasks.

If your home base is Google Tasks (because the items also show beside Gmail and Calendar), those workarounds fight the reason you chose Tasks in the first place.

What “complete from the wrist” should mean

A useful Watch flow is short:

  1. Raise your wrist and open the list that matches the moment (groceries, packing, shared errands).
  2. Tap the task to mark it complete.
  3. See the change sync back to iPhone and to Google Tasks so Gmail and Calendar catch up.

That is different from merely mirroring a phone banner. Completion is the point: the open item should leave the list everywhere you look next, not only on the device in your hand.

It also differs from completing a task from a Home Screen widget. Widgets are useful when the phone is already out. The Watch question is what happens when the phone stays put.

How to do it with a native Watch client

Keep the task in Google Tasks, and check it off where watchOS is strongest. That is what the ETasks Apple Watch app is for:

  • Browse your Google Tasks lists on the Watch (or local lists if you are not signed in to Google)
  • Tap to complete; the change syncs to your iPhone and to Google Tasks
  • Receive reminders and deadline warnings on the wrist with haptics, including postpone and complete actions on those alerts

Install ETasks on iPhone from the App Store, pair your Watch as usual, and open the Watch app when you need hands-free check-off. Shared grocery or household lists work especially well: an item you complete on your wrist disappears for the people sharing that list too, when you use shared lists.

ETasks does not invent a Google-side Watch app that would suddenly appear in Google’s own Tasks product. It is a native Apple companion that keeps two-way sync with the same Google Tasks data Gmail and Calendar already understand. Quick answers

Can you complete Google Tasks from Apple Watch? Not with Google’s Tasks app. Google does not ship Tasks for watchOS.

Will a due-time notification on my Watch complete the task? No. Stock Tasks notifications are not a Watch completion UI for Google Tasks.

Does completing on the Watch sync to Gmail and Calendar? Yes, when you use a client with two-way Google Tasks sync. ETasks completes on the wrist and writes the change back to Google Tasks.

Is this the same as the official Watch app Google never made? No. ETasks is a native Apple Watch companion for your Google Tasks (or local) lists, not a Google-branded watchOS Tasks app.
