Does Google Tasks have a completed tasks history view on iPhone?
If you have searched “Google Tasks completed history,” “view completed Google Tasks,” or “Google Tasks finished tasks log on iPhone,” you want proof of what you finished, not another open checklist. Stock Tasks can show completed items, but it is not a full history view.
Short answer
Google Tasks does not offer a dedicated completed tasks history screen on iPhone. There is no global “everything I finished this month” page, no filter by completion date, and no activity log across lists.
What you get instead is a Completed section at the bottom of each list. Expand it to see finished tasks for that list, often with a completed date on the row. Collapse it when you want the open checklist back. Google documents finding and hiding completed tasks in its organize Tasks help for iPhone.
What the Completed section actually is
Think of Completed as a per-list drawer, not an archive product.
- Finished tasks stay attached to the list where you checked them off.
- Expanding Completed shows those rows so you can reopen a mistake or read an old title.
- Collapsing Completed hides the clutter without deleting anything.
- Clearing or deleting completed items removes them from that list. That is cleanup, not a move into long-term history.
If you work across Work, Personal, Errands, and a few project lists, “history” means opening each list and expanding Completed separately. That is the main reason people feel Google Tasks has no history at all, even when finished tasks are still there.
What people usually mean by history
Search queries often mix three different jobs:
- Proof: “When did I finish that vendor follow-up?”
- Recovery: “I completed the wrong task and need it open again.”
- Cleanup: “I want finished work out of sight without losing the titles forever.”
Stock Tasks handles (2) reasonably well if the item is still in Completed: mark it incomplete. It handles (3) by collapsing Completed or deleting finished rows. It is weakest on (1) when the task might live on another list, or when you already cleared completed items.
Completed is also not a recycle bin. Delete is different from complete. If the row is gone, you are rebuilding, not browsing history. For that distinction, see how to undo a completed task and whether Google Tasks has a recycle bin.
Calendar is not a completion log either
Dated Google Tasks can appear in Google Calendar when the Tasks calendar is enabled. Calendar can also show completed dated tasks, and you can turn that display off in Calendar settings. That helps for date-stamped work you already scheduled.
It still is not a completed history for undated tasks, and it is not a searchable log of every checkmark across every list. Calendar surfaces dated work. It does not replace a history inbox.
Practical habits that reduce the pain
- Keep project work in fewer, clearer lists so Completed searches stay short.
- Expand Completed weekly before you mass-delete finished items.
- Prefer complete over delete when a title or note might matter later.
- For reference writing that you will need for months, keep the durable copy in Docs, Keep, or Notes, and leave a short Tasks pointer instead of using Completed as storage.
- If you only needed a quieter open list, hide or clear completed on purpose rather than treating every checkmark as permanent archive.
When a native iPhone client helps
If Google Tasks remains your source of truth for Gmail and Calendar, the missing piece on iPhone is often navigation, not another cloud backend. ETasks is a native Google Tasks client with all-lists and planner views plus fast search across titles and notes, so you spend less time opening list after list to find a finished or still-open item.
ETasks does not invent a Google-side global completed history that would appear inside Google’s own Tasks, Gmail, or Calendar apps. Two-way sync still keeps list content in Google Tasks. For mistaken deletes (not completions), ETasks can also keep an optional local recycle bin on the device.
Quick answers
Does Google Tasks have a completed tasks history view? No dedicated cross-list history. Each list has a Completed section you can expand or hide.
Can I see when I completed a task? Often yes inside that list’s Completed section, where finished rows can show a completed date. There is still no date-filtered history screen.
Where do completed Google Tasks go on iPhone? They stay on the same list under Completed until you delete them or mark them incomplete.
Is completed the same as deleted? No. Completed can be reopened. Deleted is removed, and stock Google Tasks has no full recycle bin for those rows.
