Can you complete multiple Google Tasks at once on iPhone?

If you have searched “complete multiple Google Tasks,” “batch complete Google Tasks iPhone,” or “select all tasks Google Tasks,” you are usually closing out a list after a busy stretch. Stock Google Tasks on iPhone does not offer a Select mode that marks several rows done in one action.

Short answer

No. The official Google Tasks app on iPhone does not document a multi-select mode, Select All control, or batch Complete action. Google’s iOS help for organizing tasks covers reordering one row, moving one task, and finding completed items under each list’s Completed section. Completing work is still a per-task tap on the circle beside the title.

That is different from Mail-style “select many, act once.” In stock Tasks, each check-off is its own edit. There is also no documented batch Delete for open tasks. For relocating several items, see multi-select or batch move on iPhone: that pattern is missing too.

How completing works in stock Tasks

When you finish something, use the normal single-task path:

  1. Open the Google Tasks app and the list that holds the task.
  2. Tap the empty circle to the left of the title.
  3. The row moves into that list’s Completed section (expand or collapse as needed).
  4. Repeat for the next finished item.

A few details keep people from getting stuck:

  • Complete is not the same as delete. You can reopen a finished row from Completed. See how to undo a completed task.
  • Completed items stay on the list that owned them. There is no cross-list “everything I finished this week” history screen in stock Tasks. See completed tasks history.
  • Clearing clutter after a cleanup pass is about hiding or clearing completed rows, not batch-completing open ones. See hide or clear completed Google Tasks.
  • A Home Screen widget can show tasks, but stock Tasks does not document an interactive checkbox that completes from the widget surface itself. See complete from a widget.

On a computer, the Tasks side panel in Gmail or Calendar can feel quicker for rapid single check-offs with a mouse. That still is not a checkbox stack with one Complete button for many selected rows.

Why people want batch complete

End-of-day triage is the usual trigger. You already did the work. The list still shows five open circles because you never paused mid-errand to open Tasks. Other to-do apps teach a Select mode for that moment: tick the finished stack, Complete once, move on.

Without it, people invent habits that create new mess:

  • Leaving finished rows open for days so the list no longer matches reality
  • Typing “done” into the title instead of checking the circle
  • Deleting finished tasks so Completed stays empty, which removes the easy undo path
  • Recreating the same chore tomorrow because yesterday’s row never got closed

Those workarounds fight the product model. Google Tasks is list-first and row-first. Capture is easy. Closing a pile is still one tap each.

A calmer end-of-day check-off without Select mode

You do not need multi-select to finish a tidy pass. A short ritual helps:

  1. Open one list at a time (for example Errands), not every list in your head at once.
  2. Scan from the top and tap only the circles you are sure are done.
  3. Skip anything that is half-done or waiting on someone else. Leave those open with a short note if needed.
  4. Expand Completed once to confirm the right rows landed there, then collapse it so the open list stays readable.
  5. Switch lists and repeat. Do not try to zero every list in one sitting if that makes you rush and mark the wrong items.

If the real friction is “I cannot see what is due across lists,” the deeper issue is list-first navigation. Stock Tasks shows one list at a time. There is no durable Today inbox or all-lists screen in Google’s own iPhone app. Sorting by date can help surface timed work, but it does not add batch Complete. See sort by due date and Today view.

When a native Google Tasks shell helps

If your tasks should stay in Google (Gmail and Calendar keep reading the same account), the useful upgrade is a better iPhone shell, not a second cloud. ETasks syncs two-way with Google Tasks, shows every list in one view, and puts check-off closer with widgets and an Apple Watch app where you can complete from your wrist.

That is still not a Google-side “Select many, Complete once” control that appears inside Google’s own Tasks, Gmail, or Calendar UIs. It is less hopping when you want to close work you already finished.

Skip that path if you truly need project-style batch edit with tags, filters, and assignees. That is a different product category. For a side-by-side of Google Tasks, Reminders, and ETasks, see the compare page.

Quick answers

Can you complete multiple Google Tasks at once on iPhone? No. Stock Tasks has no documented batch Complete or Select All for open tasks.

Is there a Select mode in Google Tasks? Not on iPhone. There is no checkbox stack for several rows before Complete, Move, or Delete.

Does tapping one circle complete a group? No. Each circle completes only that task (and its own completion state).

Can I batch complete from the Home Screen widget? Stock Tasks does not document interactive complete-from-widget checkboxes. Opening the app and tapping circles remains the reliable path.

Will a third-party Google Tasks client add Google’s missing batch complete? Clients can improve how you browse and check off on iPhone or Watch. They do not invent a Google cloud multi-select Complete that Google’s own apps would show.
