Does Google Tasks have location reminders on iPhone?

“Does Google Tasks have location reminders?” is a fair question if you already use Apple Reminders for “when I get home” cues, or if your grocery list only matters when you are actually at the store.

What Google Tasks does (and does not) do with places

Google Tasks is strong at lists, due dates, and showing those dates in Google Calendar and Gmail. It does not attach a place to a task or notify you when you arrive or leave.

If you need “pick up the dry cleaning when I drive past” or “take out recycling when I leave home,” stock Google Tasks has no built-in answer. Time-based due dates and Calendar entries still help for deadlines, but they do not fire because of where you are.

Why place-based reminders matter

Plenty of to-dos are location-triggered, not clock-triggered:

  • Errands that only make sense near a store, pharmacy, or post office
  • Home or office chores that should wait until you get there (or until you leave)
  • Shared family lists where your personal cue should not ping everyone else

Apple Reminders has long offered location cues. Google Tasks users on iPhone often end up duplicating tasks into Reminders, or hoping they will remember when they pass the right place. That split is exactly what people try to avoid when they keep Tasks as the source of truth in Gmail and Calendar.

What works on iPhone instead

Keep the task in Google Tasks (or local-only in the same app), and fire the place alert where iOS is strongest. That is the idea behind ETasks location reminders:

  • Attach a place on the task (search, tap the map, or use your current location)
  • Get notified when you arrive (default)
  • Optionally enable Leaving notifications in Labs if you also want leave alerts
  • Use Calendar Map to see open location reminders as pins, tap the map to add a task at a place, or drag a task onto the map to set its location

Enable Location notifications under Settings → Labs, and grant Always location access so geofences can fire when the app is closed. With While Using only, background arrive and leave alerts will not run.

Place metadata travels with the task the same way other ETasks enhancements do. Live location is used on your device for monitoring; it is not sold or used for advertising. On shared lists, location reminders stay personal to you.

For hard deadlines that need a ringing alarm instead of a place cue, pair this with real task alarms.

Quick answers

Does Google Tasks have location reminders? No. There are no arrive or leave alerts in Google’s Tasks apps.

Can I get location reminders for Google Tasks on iPhone? Yes, with a native client that adds them. ETasks supports arrive (and optional leave) reminders plus Calendar Map.

Do collaborators see my location reminders? No. On shared lists they stay personal, like time-based reminders and alarms.

Why Always location? Background geofences need Always access so the alert can fire when ETasks is not open. See the Privacy Policy for what is stored and how location is used.
