Does Google Tasks sync with Apple Calendar on iPhone?

If you searched “Google Tasks Apple Calendar sync,” “show Google Tasks in Apple Calendar,” or “why don’t my Google Tasks appear on my iPhone calendar,” you want one clear answer. Stock Google Tasks does not sync into Apple’s Calendar app. Dating a task is not the same as creating a calendar event.

Short answer

No. Google Tasks does not sync with Apple Calendar on iPhone.

You can add a Google account under Settings → Calendar → Accounts so Google Calendar events appear in the Apple Calendar app. That path does not pull in Google Tasks. A task with a due date still lives in Google Tasks. It is not a Calendar event, so Apple Calendar ignores it.

This is easy to miss because the same Google account powers Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Tasks. Events and tasks share an account. They are still different objects.

Why people expect them to sync

Three setups look similar and get mixed together:

  1. Google Calendar events in Apple Calendar. Supported. Add Google under Calendar accounts and enable the calendars you want. Google documents this for iPhone and iPad.
  2. Dated Google Tasks in Google Calendar. Supported in Google’s Calendar app (and on the web) when the Tasks calendar is on. That is a Google surface, not Apple Calendar. See Tasks in Google Calendar on iPhone.
  3. Dated Google Tasks in Apple Calendar. Not supported. Tasks use a separate API. Apple Calendar reads events, not Tasks rows.

If Google meetings show up on your iPhone calendar but checklists do not, that is expected. Events synced. Tasks did not.

What a due date actually does

In Google Tasks, a due date (with or without a time) is a deadline or nudge on the task. It can sort the item, trigger a normal notification when Google and iOS allow it, and appear on Google Calendar’s Tasks layer when that layer is enabled.

It does not create a start and end block in Apple Calendar, sync through CalDAV as an event, or show up next to meetings in the stock Calendar app just because you added Google for events.

A timed task is still a checklist item with a clock, not a reserved span of your day. For a real block, create a calendar event and keep the Tasks row as the checklist. Tasks has no duration field; see estimated duration and time blocking.

Practical options on iPhone

Pick the path that matches what you were actually trying to see:

Stay inside Google Calendar for due tasks. Open the Google Calendar app, enable the Tasks calendar for the right account, and give tasks due dates. You get deadlines beside meetings without expecting Apple Calendar to list them.

Use Apple Calendar only for events. Keep appointments in calendars that Apple Calendar can sync. Keep open work in Google Tasks (or Gmail’s Tasks panel). Accept two surfaces: Calendar for “when,” Tasks for “done or not.”

Duplicate into an event when visibility matters. For a leave-by or travel window, create a real calendar event (Google Calendar can sync to Apple Calendar; Apple Calendar events stay in iCloud). Keep a short task title for the checklist. Completing the task does not auto-remove the event.

Avoid fake “sync” by pasting into Reminders. That creates a second database. There is no official two-way Google Tasks ↔ Apple Reminders sync from Google.

Third-party bridges that turn tasks into calendar events exist. Treat them as optional extras and confirm what they write (events vs tasks) before you trust them for work.

When stock Google surfaces are enough

Stock Google Tasks plus Google Calendar is enough when:

  • Gmail and Google Calendar are already your home base
  • Seeing due tasks next to meetings in Google Calendar is sufficient
  • You do not need those same task chips inside Apple Calendar or on Apple Watch Calendar

It falls short when your day lives in Apple Calendar, you want one grid for meetings and checklist items there, or you want richer planning (week/day layouts, all lists) while keeping Google Tasks as the source of truth.

When a native Google Tasks client helps

ETasks is a native Google Tasks app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch with two-way sync. It does not invent Apple Calendar sync for Google Tasks (no honest client can turn Tasks into CalDAV events without writing separate events). It does offer month, week, day, agenda, and map planners over your Google Tasks data, plus task alarms when a quiet due-time push is not enough.

Use it when you want to plan the checklist on Apple devices without leaving the Google Tasks database that Gmail and Google Calendar already understand. For a side-by-side of stock Tasks, Reminders, and ETasks, see the comparison page.

Quick answers

Does Google Tasks sync with Apple Calendar? No. Apple Calendar can sync Google Calendar events, not Google Tasks.

Why do my Google meetings show up but not my tasks? Meetings are calendar events. Tasks are a separate checklist database with optional due dates.

Can I see Google Tasks next to my calendar at all? Yes, in the Google Calendar app (or Calendar on the web) when the Tasks calendar is enabled and the task has a due date.

Will adding my Google account under Calendar → Accounts fix Tasks? That adds events. It does not import Tasks into Apple Calendar.

Does ETasks put Google Tasks into Apple Calendar? No. ETasks syncs with Google Tasks and gives you native planners and alerts on Apple devices. It does not claim CalDAV task sync into Apple Calendar.
